Born in Mildenhall in Q1-1891 [Mildenhall 4a:773] to Ruth BUTCHER of Bargate Farm, Weston Ditch, Mildenhall.

1891 census...Sidney [3 months] was living with his mother Ruth BUTCHER [30] born West Row, Mildenhall at Weston Ditch Road, Mildenhall where his mother was a servant of market gardener John Moore.

His mother married William NEWTON in Mildenhall in 1899.

1901 census...Sidney [12?] was living at Granby Street, Newmarket with his mother Ruth and stepfather William[62] a fishmonger, born in Newmarket.

1911 census...Sidney, now a billposter, was at 5 Granby Street, Newmarket with his widowed mother. His stepfather had died in 1906.


His death was registered in Cambridge 3b 955 so it is likely he died in Addenbrookes Hospital (1st Eastern General Hospital). He died of Influenza and bronchial pneumonia. His Army records have not been found and he has not been found on the list for Silver War Badge award. His Medal Card shows that he had served in France.







Sidney is buried in Newmarket Cemetery. Ref: F.492B
and commemorated on the Roll of Honour of All Saints School, Newmarket
and is also commemorated on the Roll of Honour in St Philip & St Etheldreda's Church, Exning Road.
